Hi there,

Bye,
Thierry

"Sendmail, Inc. publishes patch for "Melissa" virus
The "Melissa" virus was first detected on March 26, 1999. The "Melissa"
virus is a Microsoft Word macro virus delivered as an email attachment.
When the attachment, "list.doc" is opened the virus searches the Microsoft
Outlook address book and delivers the following message to the first 50
names:

Subject: Important Message From <infected user's name>
Body: Here is that document you asked for... don't show anyone else ;-)

The virus proliferates itself as users open the attachment.

The patch written by Sendmail is intended for experienced systems
administrators for use with the sendmail Mail Transfer Agent (MTA). This
patch is designed to block email host messages containing the virus from
entering a computer network and to deter the relaying of such messages
across the Internet. This is not a virus protection program for use with
personal computers. If you are running Microsoft Outlook and feel you may
be at risk, please contact your email host provider or your company's
systems administrator(s).

This patch will work for all versions of sendmail 8.9, Sendmail Pro and all
commercial versions of sendmail based on 8.9. Sendmail believes, but cannot
guarantee, that this includes Solaris 7 and FreeBSD 3.x.
