> Waltham, Massachusetts, September 21, 1998 - Advanced Visual Systems (AVS)
> announced today the release of AVS5.4 for PCs running the Linux operating
> system. AVS5 is Advanced Visual Systems' original visual programming data
> visualization product designed for both application developers and end
> users. AVS5 consists of a comprehensive suite of data visualization and
> analysis techniques that incorporates both traditional visualization tools
> such as 2D plots and graphs and image processing, as well as advanced tools
> such as 3D interactive rendering and volume visualization. It enables users
> to analyze, manipulate and display large volumes of complex data, including
> 2D and 3D images, 3D graphics and multidimensional numeric data. AVS5 has
> been a proven solution for numerous visualization applications in multiple
> industries, such as defense, telecommunications, medical imaging, energy
> exploration and scientific research.

>
> This release now makes AVS5 capabilities available for PC-class machines.
> It provides support for the Linux operating system distribution available
> from Red Hat Software using the standard GNU compilers. Red Hat Linux is a
> POSIX based, advanced, easy to administer operating system that allows a PC
> to function as a UNIX workstation effectively and reliably for advanced
> computing tasks such as visualization applications developed with AVS5.
>
> Tim Greer, vice president of sales and marketing, Advanced Visual Systems,
> commented that, "This new release meets the needs of many customers who have
> been using AVS5 on Unix workstations and now want it's capabilities on the
> PC platform. It is in response to AVS5 clients who have requested the Linux
> operating system to increase their platform options and expand its use
> throughout their organizations. We recognize that Linux is growing in
> popularity within our customer base and provides AVS a platform to grow with
> those customers, as well as introduce new customers to the benefits of
> visualization at a price they can afford."
