It seems that The Crash occurred while attempting to use a new USB
scanner with what was thought to be a solid revision of Windows98.
A post-mortem of that problem is of obvious interest to the
attendees of the USB Plug-In. In the days following The Crash, the
gentleman tore into the scanner's USB driver with relish; after
many hours of toil he came up for air, with only one odd fact to
report: if the scanner fails to start, the driver releases RAM
that it doesn't own.
